Our Estate
GHATTADAHALLI ESTATE - a legacy of 200 years of coffee cultivation
making us one of India’s oldest coffee growing families.
The estate is situated in Mudigere Taluk, Chikmagalur District, Karnataka State, at 3100 ft/ 944 m above MSL, along the Western Ghats, a world biodiversity hotspot.
We conscientiously nurture both, nature and our coffee, which is shade grown under a forest like canopy of consciously preserved native trees, amidst a thriving biodiversity of wondrous flora & fauna, thus nutrient rich soil. Ripened berries are selectively hand harvested, wet processed & sun-dried. All the above factors contribute to the development of our coffee bean’s exceptional flavour profile.
We use no pesticides or weedicides. We utilize both, traditional & time tested, as well as modern & innovative methods, with emphasis on eco friendly agricultural & production practices.
We are a woman led, & a women majority (over 85%) workforce/team in the plantation.
We are Rainforest Alliance certified under the group certification scope of OFI (Olam Food Ingredients), India. As assessed & analyzed by the same, Ghattadahalli Estate fulfills the requirements put forth by EUDR ( European Union Deforestation-free Regulation)
Tribute and Legacy
MD Coffee is a tribute by its founder, to her beloved father, M.D Balakrishna, uncle M.D Narayan & grandfather, visionary & philanthropist Lokasevaniratha M.S Dyave Gowda, who have cumulatively led & served the Indian Coffee Plantation industry & their own family plantations for about a century, with their utmost dedication & deep passion.
MD Coffee is a hallmark of this legacy, a hallmark of excellence & of their & now our commitment to quality coffee, conservation & community.

is therefore an elixir borne truly in the lap of nature, a culmination of more than a century of expertise & care in every stage of cultivation & production on our estate. It does not end there..
